Tres Leches Cake

Unsalted butter, for the pan
1 1/2 cups all-purpose flour, plus more for the pan
1 tablespoon baking powder
1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
4 large eggs separated
1 1/2 cups sugar
1/2 cup whole milk
one 14 oz. can sweetened condensed milk
one 12 oz. can evaporated milk
1 cup heavy cream
2 tablespoons orange liqueur, such as Grand Marnier

1. Preheat oven to 350 degrees F. Butter and flour a 10 inch cake pan with 2 -inch sides, and then line the bottom with parchment paper. Butter the paper.

2. Mix the flour, baking powder, and cinnamon in a medium bowl. Using an electric mixer, whip the egg whites until frothy. With the mixer running, gradually add the sugar and beat until stiff peaks form. Beat in the egg yolks one at a time, blending well after each addition. Add the flour mixture in three additions, alternating with the whole milk in two additions.

3. Pour the batter into the prepared pan and bake for 30 to 35 minutes or until tester inserted comes out clean. Let cool slightly in pan; then invert it onto a platter with 1-inch- high sides.

4. Pierce the top of the warm cake all over with a thick skewer. Mix the sweetened condensed milk, evaporated milk, heavy cream and orange liqueur, and pour slowly over cake. Cover and refrigerate until cold, about 3 hours or overnight.

Note: serve as is or top with fresh fruit, ice cream or a homemade Italian meringue....

Do they use the one made from cow's milk or goat's milk, like in Mexico???

Anything with dulce de leche! Dulce de leche-filled crepes, cakes, tarts...

I have made it just a handful of times...the first recipe I tried was sooo involved, so I looked and looked until I found this much more simple, but still tasty one....friends really enjoyed it. What is the popular dessert in Argentina??

I don't think I've ever made a Tres Leches cake (and I've only eaten it once!). I should give your recipe a go!
