Regarding stoves, we have no choice, either. Many folks (like Jorge) prefer smooth tops; they're much easier to clean, of course. However, we prefer coils because we do a lot of wok cooking (yes, in addition to Hispanic food) and with traditional round bottom woks, it just seems more comfortable and most say it works better. Yep - cleanup is certainly a pain. One more thing to consider - knobs at the front. If they're at the back, you're constantly reaching over steamy pots and hot skillets.

Hey George, some years back we went with a smoothtop stove. It heats really fast, cleaning is easy (make sure to have a scraper or razorblade around for sticky situations). Similarly, if something does boil over, no worries, it's got nowhere to go. I think the chances of kitchen fires are decreased too. Might want to check out Consumer Reports on what are some of the best models...
