Something I came across today that I just had to share... It seems that Chef Marcela Valladolid's pronunciation of "tortilla" is a bit too authentic for some folks. Says one poster: "If you want to hear TORTILLA pronounced correctly, stay in Mexico." Here is the page: http://foodnetworkhumor.com/2010/02/is-marcela-valladolid-the-mexic.... Thanks Jorge...how many times did she have to say it...funny!
As I posted on Facebook, I find this very sad. Why do Hispanics have to anglicize words that are obviously in Spanish? As the poster said, Giada pronounces Mascarpone and Spaghetti the way Italians do. We don't anglicize words from other cultures.
Proper pronunciation of whatever it is, an Italian dish, a Mexican dish, French, whatever it is -- it means you care enough or are educated enough to not trample the name. It's a sign of respect for the thing you are about to eat and the country where it comes from.

Too funny. Now, what's your take on Spanglish. My personal favorite. Only because I speak it so well!
